About MJS Designs
MJS Designs takes prides in providing contemporary designer textile pieces for fashion, accessories and art which are unlike anything you have seen before.
Each item in the collection is individually hand crafted by the company's sole designer, Michelle Straker. The unique and original pieces created are made using yarn and merino wool in a range of techniques and processes including freehand machine embroidery and various dyeing techniques.
The most striking aspect of MJS Designs' products, whether they are scarves, purses or bags, is the creative use of colour and the unique, handmade textures which are carefully constructed to the highest quality.
Bridal, bespoke and art pieces can also be commissioned. Close customer consultation also ensure that each client receives personalized item that is not only unique but more importantly the perfect colour and shape for their specific needs.
Biography
Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Michelle Straker (Designer) moved to England (UK) in 2002 where she studied Textiles at Dover College in Kent. In 2005 she went on to achieve a National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing at the Kent Institute of Art and Design. Later that year she enrolled in the Chelsea College of Art and Design where she pursued a BA in Textile Design.
She obtained her degree and graduated from Chelsea College in 2008 after which she started working on pieces for her first collection for MJS Designs. She returned to Trinidad in 2010 and currently resides there.
